Many hockey players dream of playing for their country and very few get the opportunity to play hockey as their full-time career.
What does it take to break into the top level and to ultimately get paid to play hockey?
I recently spoke to HPA member and England & GB International, Ellie Rayer who recently made her Senior International debut and is now a funded GB hockey player.
She shared how she went from a 16 year old who had only ever dreamt of playing for England to making her senior international debut just a few years later, against the odds.
In this video interview Ellie reveals:
- How she went from “lucky to be selected” to senior GB International
- Why you don’t need to be the most skilful player to get noticed
- What separates her from the other girls who missed out
- Her biggest setbacks and how she overcame them
- How to deal with conflicting advice from different coaches
- The key lessons she has learnt in her journey
