20 Motivational Field Hockey Quotes

We all like to be inspired and sometimes motivational field hockey quotes can be just the thing we need, so I have put together a list of my favourite quotes which have helped me and also some which I know have inspired others.

Motivational quotes are like baths… it’s only a short term solution so you need to be inspire yourself everyday.

#1 – You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take

This is my personal favourite which I have used most as a striker, it comes from one of the best ice hockey players ever, Wayne Gretzy. It basically means that if you are worried about not scoring, it is better to take the shot and miss because you won’t score if you don’t take the shot anyway.

#2 – It’s not about how good you are but how bad you want it

Stop thinking that you don’t have enough talent and start working on improving until you are good enough. Be prepared to work smarter than others and you will go places.

#3 – You only see obstacles when you take your eyes off the goal”

You have to be focussed on what’s most important in order to achieve your goal and not allow yourself to be distracted by why you can’t achieve it but rather focus on why YOU CAN!

#4 – A good player plays where the ball is. A great player plays where the ball is going to be.

The ability to anticipate what is going to happen next can mean being in the right place at the right time and giving you the 2 yards of space that you sometimes need.

#5 – Let your mistakes make you better, not bitter…

Too many people look to blame others when they make mistakes. Rather take responsibility for your mistakes and use them as a way to learn and grow as a player.

#6 – Winning means you are willing to go longer, work harder and give me than anyone else

There are no short-cuts to winning, you have to be willing to do things that others aren’t prepared to do.

#7 – Practice like you’ve never WON, Play like you’ve never LOST

In training you need to work harder than anyone else and train like you are second best and in games play with the confidence and assurance that you have never lost.

#8 – It’s not how BIG you are, it’s how big you PLAY!

Too often people blame their size (or lack of) for not being good enough or when they aren’t selected. Instead you should use your size to your advantage, smaller players tend to be more agile and bigger players are normally stronger or have greater reach.

#9 – My goal is to stop yours

This is one for the goalkeepers… 🙂

#10 – It takes balls to play hockey

Oh yes! One for the ego of hockey players! Let’s face it, we are all hardcore 🙂

#11 – Hard work makes things look easy

Wonder how internationals make it looks so easy? They do the hard work at training!

#12 – There may be players better than you, but there is no excuse for anyone working harder than you!

Love this one!

#13 – Good players inspire themselves, great players inspire others

Inspire others by what you do on the field and off the field.

#14 – Don’t go through life without goals

Just like you can’t win in hockey without having goals, you can’t win in life without goals. Find what you are passionate about and go for it!

#15 – Never give up on something you can’t live a day without thinking about

Follow your passion. Follow your heart! Don’t let others tell you what you must or mustn’t do.

#16 – Sometimes you win, sometimes you learn

We all have lessons to learn and sometimes we have to experience setbacks in order to learn these lessons and to grow as a player.

#17 – The only difference between you and your goal is the story that you tell yourself as to why you can’t achieve it

Do you listen to the story that you tell yourself as to why you aren’t good enough? Do you ever let others tell you your story? What about why you can do it!

#18 – Everyone has the desire to win, but only champions have the desire to prepare to win

The biggest difference between winners and losers is preparation, including both mental preparation and physical preparation. Make sure you do everything you can to prepare before it’s too late.

#19 – Hockey is where we live. Life is just a place we spend between games

#20 – Be so good that they can’t ignore you

Instead of complaining that you aren’t getting noticed, start doing things that make you stand out! It all starts in your mind…

I hope you enjoyed these inspiring and motivational quotes.
